How to beat the cold by spending time with your family indoors

How to beat the cold by spending time with your family indoors

When winter hits so does the cold weather. Depending on where you live, you might have to fight the low temps plus heavy snow in your driveway anytime you want to take the family out for fun. But if you’d rather keep your family warm and toasty that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the holiday fun, there are many things you can do indoors that will have your family laughing and enjoying their time together.

Here they are:

Game Night: You might be surprised how much fun you will have playing board games like Cranium from Kmart or a video game like Mario Party 8 for the Wii from Sears. Mario Party 8 allows up to 4 players so you can all be involved with the fun. Game night will bring your family together as you team up and work together to make your team the big winners.

Movie Night: Pop the popcorn, bake some cookies and of course heat up some hot chocolate! It’s time for a holiday movie! You can go with one of the classics like It’s a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street or you can pick up a Christmas movie that isn’t quite as old that those classics but it’s still a favorite (at least it’s my favorite) Home Alone.

Make Holiday Candy: It’s so fun for the little ones to get “messy” in the kitchen to help mom/dad make festive Christmas cookies and candy. Some of the easiest for children to help bake and decorate are gingerbread boys and girls. You do the baking and mix some white icing with food coloring and let your little ones decorate the gingerbread men however they want. Another is Hershey Kiss Cookies. Bake the peanut butter cookies and near the end let your kids stick the hershey kisses in the top of the cookie. They will feel so proud!

Decorate the tree: Don’t leave all the Christmas decorating to just mom or just dad. Gather all the children in the room together and let them help wrap the lights, hang the ornaments, you can even let the kiddies climb on your shoulders to top the tree with the angel or star.

Christmas Cards: Get the whole family together for a fun family picture that can be sent as Christmas cards. An inexpensive and easy way to do this is to get an old school polaroid camera, snap a shot of the whole family by the tree or even on the couch in their PJs, then glue it on some cardstock, add a little Merry Christmas note on the bottom and instantly you’ve got a vintage Christmas card for your friends and family to enjoy.

There are so many things you can do inside that will get your family together to share laughter and love this holiday season. Don’t let these special moments pass by, take advantage of the cold and snow.
