A California man was sentenced to prison for stealing over 2,000 credit card numbers. Paul Abramyan, 27, a gas station attendant, stole the financial information from the business' customers. He has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison, according to CBS.
Customers who frequented the gas station reported that the pumps were often out of order. Patrons would leave their credit card with the attendant while they pumped gas, at which time Abramyan allegedly stole the information, WireUpdate reports.
The theft happened in 2007, when the man used three credit cards to purchase $2,000 worth of merchandise from a nearby Babies-Are-Us. When officers searched his home, they found a magnetic card reader, a floppy disk reader and floppy disks that held credit card information which did not belong to Abramyan, according to the source.
Credit card theft is a worry to many consumers. Those who want to avoid having their identities stolen should find alternatives to using credit cards, such as making secure purchases online.
