Thieves steal purse from car, use credit card

Three people were arrested in Ohio for allegedly using stolen credit cards, according to the Newark Advocate.

A resident of Licking County told officials that her purse was stolen out of the trunk of her car at the Dawes Arboretum. Her credit cards were then used to make purchases at Heath stores, including Indian Mound Mall and a Toys 'R' Us, according to the news source.

Using an anonymous tip and surveillance video from a nearby Wal-Mart helped police identify Sarah Bellis, 18, as a suspect. A second anonymous tip led officers to David Welch, 26, who was then arrested.

A store clerk also led officers to identify Rube Russell, 22, as a suspect.

Each of the suspects has a prior criminal record. Billis has been previously convicted of misuse of credit cards, and Welch has been charged with theft of credit cards. While Russell has no history of identity theft, he has been charged with obstructing official business, the news source reports.

Many criminals target shoppers who are distracted or unaware that their personal information is easily accessible. Those who are concerned about identity theft should try to eliminate their usage of credit cards.
