Four Russian soldiers are being charged with using the credit card information belonging to one of the victims of the recent plane crash that claimed the life of Polish president Lech Kacynski, among many others, according to the New York Times.
Russia's Interior Minister had denied the claims this past weekend, however, Russia has now comfirmed that the soldiers have been detained. The four individuals were manning a cordon near the crash sight, and have confessed their guilt. They are currently cooperating with investigators, the source reports.
Shortly after the cash, $1,700 was withdrawn from an account belonging to Andrzej Przewoznik, an official who oversaw war memorials in Poland. Prosecutors are investigating a possible attempt to use stolen personal information from Polish parliament member Aleksandra Natalii-Swiat, who also died in the crash.
The plane crashed after attempting to land in thick fog. The aircraft was on its way to commemorate the massacre of 20,000 Polish soldiers during World War II.
Credit card theft is a major concern for many. Those who want to avoid having their credit card information stolen should break their dependence on plastic, and use cash when making purchases.
