One out of every three web users who book their trips online are practicing risky
online shopping. behaviors, according to research conducted by GetSafeOnline.org, a site that promotes safety when purchasing through the internet.
The study shows that thirty percent of online shoppers do not fully investigate a travel opportunity before providing a site with sensitive personal information. This may be because many are trying to find the best deal online.
"When we've been working hard the rest of the year, for most people, making sure we have a great summer holiday is really important," said Tony Neate, managing director of GetSafeOnline.org, said in the report. "Fraudsters recognize this and play on people's desires - we get caught up in the excitement of a 'bargain dream holiday' and cautiousness goes out the window."
He said shoppers should be on the lookout for shady internet offers. If a website does not offer a phone number or other contact information, consumers should be particularly wary.
When shopping online, it's essential to safeguard personal information to avoid becoming the victim of an internet scam. Using a payment service that protects personal data is a smart move for those who are concerned about their safety online.
