One of the five most wanted cyber-criminals in the world was arrested by French police this Wednesday, bringing his long-time career of credit-card trafficking to an end, according to The Washington Post.
Michael Merritt, the Secret Service's assistant director for investigations, told the news source that Vladislav Anatolieviech Horohorin, known by the moniker BadB online, is part of a "network that has been repeatedly linked to nearly ever major intrusion of financial information reported" to international authorities.
Horohorin allegedly stole credit card data and sold it on the website to paying buyers worldwide. He was caught after leading undercover Secret Service agents to a foreign website that sold stolen data, according to the news provider.
Horohorin was seized by officials at the Nice airport in France. He was on his way to Moscow, where he lives, though he is a citizen of both Israel and Ukraine.
Credit card theft is a major concern to many American consumers. According to the Federal Trade Commission, those using credit cards should never lend their card to anyone unfamiliar. Additionally, some may choose to use a secure payment company when shopping online.
