According to a recent poll conducted by the Pew Internet Research organization, 58 percent of surveyed adults have used the internet to conduct product research before they make their final purchase. Furthermore, nearly a quarter of adults have posted comments or reviews about an item they bought.

This new data may be useful for people who want to save online, as research and reviewing products are both effective strategies to find the best deals and purchase quality items on the web.

The study also shows that more adults are searching for product information online this year than they have in previous years - while 21 percent of adults conduct online searchers for product info this year, only 15 percent did so in 2007, and 9 percent did so in 2004.

Researchers also discovered that the number of people purchasing popular gift items on the web, such as books, music, toys or clothing, rose from 36 percent in May of 2000 to 52 percent in May of this year.

There are many ways to save online aside from reviewing product information. According to Consumer Reports, savvy shoppers should seek out online discounts, look for familiar items and seek out generous return policies.
