Poll: many senior citizens may not understand how to save online

Savoo, an online coupon .company, is urging senior citizens over the age of 60 to head online when shopping for gifts, as many members of the older population may not realize that they can save online by finding deals on the web.

The company cites a recent survey conducted by The Post Office that found that billions of dollars could be saved online if people in the UK choose to shop online. rather than at brick-and-mortar stores. The poll also found 91 percent of people aged 60 or older are aware that there are deals to be found on the web to help them save money.

"It is staggering how many people are unaware of the amount they can save through shopping online, and older generations could especially benefit from the convenience of making their purchases from their home as well as having them deliver," said retail partnerships director at Savoo Simon Bird. "With saving money more important than ever given the current climate, people need to utilize the potential of shopping online."

The Federal Trade Commission recommends that shoppers using the internet make gift purchases this holiday season and comparison shop to save money.
