Cyber Monday. proved to be very successful this year, as many shoppers signed on to find great deals on holiday gifts from a wide variety of web-based merchants. According to CNN, one analysis of the retail event indicates that this year's
Cyber Monday. sales jumped by nearly 20 percent from 2009.
"
Cyber Monday. came in as the biggest shopping day of the year so far," John Squire, chief strategy officer of Coremetrics, the group that performed the analysis, told the news source.
On average, Coremetrics estimates that shoppers individually spent an average of spent $194.89 online yesterday, which is an 8.3 percent increase from the 2009 average of $180.03. Furthermore, the web holiday out-shined Black Friday sales and brick-and-mortar stores by 31.1 percent.
It looks as though the online sales won't be slowing any time soon. Some retailers are planning on extending their online promotions throughout week, creating a new phrase titled Cyber Week.
The term
Cyber Monday. was coined 5 years ago by the website Shop.org, a branch of the National Retail Federation. The organization collates many of the deals offered on the shopping holiday at CyberMonday.com, which is available to online shoppers throughout the year.
