online shopping. day in history, reports the analytics company ComScore. Though the organization had made statements yesterday remarking on the success of the shopping event, final numbers weren't released by the group until today.
"
Cyber Monday. was a historic day for e-commerce as we saw daily spending surpass $1 billion for the first time," said Gian Fulgoni, chairman of ComScore. "The online holiday shopping season has clearly gotten off to a very strong start, which is welcome news."
This year, consumers spent $1.028 billion, compared to last year's total of $887 million.
Cyber Monday. sales far surpassed the $648 million dollars spent by shoppers on Black Friday.
Fulgoni also stated that the holiday shopping season will eventually increase throughout this month, and that it's likely retailers will see more billion-dollar spending days. He added that
Cyber Monday. was so successful because of the deals and promotions offered by many online merchants.
The Better Business Bureau recommends that shoppers keep track of the items they buy online by printing out the web pages and the confirmation emails they receive after they've purchased an item.
